Animal Health Camp’ organized under Farmer’s FIRST project

ICAR Research Complex for NEH region, Umiam, Meghalaya organized ‘Animal Health Camp’ for farmers at Nongagang village, RiBhoi, Meghalaya under Farmer’s First Project on 2nd May’ 2018 under the leadership of Dr. R. Laha, Principal Scientist and P.I,andDr.Meena Das, Scientist and Co-P.I., Division of Animal Health. A total of 33 farmers from different villages (Lalumpam, Borgang, Nongagang, Nalapara, Mawphrew, Umtham, Sarikhushi, Purangang, Borkhatsari, Madanleh) were participated in the programme.They were made aware of importance of deworming and vaccination in livestock and poultry to prevent them from various parasitic, bacterial and viral diseases. They were also made aware of vaccination in pigs and poultry against various viral diseases viz. Swine Fever, Ranikhet disease, Fowl pox, Marek’s disease etc. Inputs in the form of veterinary medicines such as anthelmintics, vitamins and mineral supplements, antidiarrhoeal, antibiotics, acaricides, topical cream etc were distributed among the farmers. Pigs (115nos.), poultry (587nos.), goats (4nos.), cattle (23nos.) and rabbits (3nos.) were treated under this programme. Door to door vaccination of pigs against Swine Fever was also done. In this occasion extension folder entitled ‘Deworming and Vaccination in Livestock and Poultry’ in both English and Khasi language was also distributed among the farmers. The farmers were also advised to do regular deworming and vaccination of their birds. Dr.AmarjitKaram (RA), IbanyllaSwer (Field Assistant, FFP) and JitenSohkhwai (progressive farmer) actively cooperated to make this programme successful.
